COMMITTEE ON SCIENCE AND ASTRONAUTICS
U. S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
WASHINGTON, D. C.
PRESS RELEASE

The Science and Astronautics Committee of the
U. S. House of Representatives will conduct a one-day Symposium on
unidentified flying objects on Monday, July 29, in the Committee
rooms of the Rayburn Building.
Six outstanding scientists have been invited
as participants to discuss specific aspects of the problem. These
discussions will include atmospheric, meteorological, physical and
psychological phenomena that are related to the problem. They
represent a sampling of scientists who have taken more than a casual
look at the UFO evidence and who feel that it is important to secure
clarifications of the nature of the UFO phenomena.
The one-day seminar will be chaired by
Congressman J. Edward Roush, a member of the Science and
Astronautics Committee. Congressman Roush has been an interested
observer for sometime of the American public's reaction to the
twenty years of reported sightings. He believes that the Congress
and the public will benefit from the responses of various members of
the scientific community to these accounts.
Expressing himself as "neither a believer nor a
skeptic rather an interested agnostic on the subject of UFO's,"
Congressman Roush says he feels that the scientific import should be
analyzed rather than the more emotional approach; that the views of
these outstanding members of the scientific community would serve a
purpose in informing the American Congress and the American public.
Following presentations on specific aspects of
the problem, the scientific experts invited will respond to
questions from members of the Committee and will be allowed time to
discuss their presentations with one another.
The meeting will be an open session of the
Committee.
