65-30 3 Sep 0130 EDT	Ipswich Mass. Country	IA Oval Physiological Hair rose	(1) A schoolteacher felt hairs on the back of his neck rise prior to sighting UFO hovering over golf course. It looked like an inverted saucer with whitish lights around its rim. The sight of it caused him to go off the road for a moment.

Investigating police were approached by the object. It wobbled and descended like a falling leaf.

He got out of the car and saw a disc-shaped object with a glowing rim which sparked in sequence about 200 feet above him.
65-37 27 Sep 1928 EDT	Andover Mass. Country	IVA Light None	(1) An Air Force-employed physicist sighted a sharply defined luminous ball of light, which he first thought to be a meteor. However, when it did not burn out he stopped to watch. It moved faster than a conventional aircraft.
65-39 2 Oct 2020 EDT	Salem Mass. Residential Power Plant	IA Cylindrical Sound Hissing	(1 + 1 + ?) The Coast Guard received many calls about an object which hovered over the N.E. Power Plant. It was cigar-shaped with an off-centered hump and a white light at each end. It swayed back and forth and was inclined 45 degrees.

It moved very slowly about 100 feet off the ground and an estimated 500 yards away from the witnesses.
65-41A 16 Nov ? 1900 EST	Salem Mass. Residential Power Plant	IIIB Light None	(4) A large red light and a smaller white light were seen hovering over the N.E. Power Plant during a rain storm. They sped off three times as fast as a jet aircraft.

Country Power lines	IIIA Elliptical None	(5) A policeman investigated a vertically descending glowing object and came upon it moving up and down and back and forth over power lines. Other police arrived. It looked like a glowing egg with a dome, and red, white, blue and green lights flashed around its circumference.

It stopped and hovered before taking off at blurring speed from a standstill, leaving a rapidly dissipating blue vapor behind it.

Country	IB Box Sound Humming Whining Physical Soil Human	(1 + 2 audio) A brownish object with silvery tripod legs seen on the ground from a distance of 24 feet. It maneuvered out from under trees before accelerating straight up and out of sight. Witness felt a blast of air from the object, which left depressions in the soil.
66-4 30 Mar 2015 EST	Rehobeth Mass. Country	ID Other Sound	(5 + 4 + 2) A dark object carrying very bright red flashing lights was seen by three independent groups in the area at different times. One group saw it hover over the road and then descend slowly into a wooded area.

66-16E 17 Apr 2100 EST	Abington Mass. City	IIIA Oval None	(3 + 3) An oval object with two bright white lights. A green light was also noticed when it was viewed through a telescope. It hovered, moved upand down and then back and forth.
66-17 18 Apr 1915 EST	Peabody Mass. Country	IIIE Oval None	(4) The witnesses sighted an elongated oval object carrying reddish green flashing lights on each end. It hovered for a moment and zipped back over the horizon faster than a jet plane. It repeated this maneuver three times. It's parameter glowed blue.
66-18 18 Apr 2145 EST	Cohasset Mass. City	IIIA Oval None	(3) An oval object with 7 flashing red lights around its circuference was sighted. It also carried two smaller white lights. It zigzagged sharply when two searchlights swept toward it and accelerated straight up, shutting off its lights.
66-19 19 Apr 2000 EST	Stoughton Mass. City	IVA Light Sound Humming	(1 + 1 audio) The object was described as a high-flying bright purple light which gave off a piercing humming sound.
66-20 19 Apr 2011 EST	Hartford Conn. City	IIIB Oval None	(2) Two oval-shaped objects carrying red and green lights were seen hovering directly over the Rock Hill Veterans Home and Hospital.

It hovered before descending behind woods. Five aircraft and 1 helicopter flew over the area. Two of the aircraft circled the area.

It moved with an up-and-down motion and appeared to land. Later, two witnesses approached field and saw lights rise from and leave the field.

They described the object as being oval shaped with a glowing rim which looked like lighted windows. The object carried a steady red light on each end and was about the size of a car.
66-26A 22 Apr 2100 EST	Beverly Mass. City School	IA Oval Sound Humming	(10) A total of 3 oval objects were sighted which flashed blue, green, red and white lights. One object hovered over a school and approached 3 observers at treetop level. Investigating police described this object as looking like a plate with colored lights.

Country School	IA Oval None	(3 + 1) Gordon College students and ground maintenance man saw an orange, roughly circular object approach within 600 feet of them at an apparent altitude of 100 feet. It executed a right-angle turn and moved off out of sight behind trees.

66-38 10 Aug 0030 EDT	Moultonboro N.H. Country Inside a cabin	IA Light None	(1) A red-orange globe of light about 3 feet in diameter with a central black design skirted about the walls and ceiling. It gave off no noise, smell or heat. Although the weather was clear, it may have been ball lightning.

(1 + 1 + 3) A newspaper night editor responded to telephone reports of a UFO and sighted a white glowing cigar-shaped object hovering in a 45-degree position over water towers. A closer witness noticed bright white lights along its side.

66-49A 22 Nov 1825 EST	Ocean N.H. Coast 10 miles	ID Other Radar	(2) Two Coast Guard pilots on a training flight saw a white light like a rocket appear a mile away. It disappeared and then rose vertically in front of them, missing the aircraft by a hundred feet. Pease AFB confirmed the object on radar.

A salesman for Flying Tiger Airlines saw cars ahead of him slow and stop to watch a silent object of unknown shape hovering low over the road. He passed directly under it and saw a rectangular pattern of floodlights on its underside.

It had 4-5 purplish lights around its perimeter. It hovered at treetop level over an elderly people's project before moving away and out of sight.

Upon investigation, they sighted a white glowing egg-shaped object with a red light on each side. It swung back and forth.
67-15 1 Mar 1925 EST	Sharon Mass. Country	IIIE Oval None	(1 + 1) A noiseless white glowing oval which moved back and forth in the area of the witnesses' home. It left a white glowing fuzzy trail in its wake.
67-17 7 Mar 2000 EST	Amherst Mass. Residential	VA Light None	(1) A bright white, slow-moving light source, which appeared to be twice the size and brightness of Venus. Binoculars did not reveal any structural details or identification lights. It changed to orange as it moved away.

Its rim glowed as bright as an acetylene torch. A localized patch of fog was around it. The witness's car engine, lights and radio failed. Paralysis occurred.

67-24 18 Mar 1950 EST	Stow Mass. Country Power lines	IIIA Oval None	(3) The object was described as being oval with a dome and surrounded by a ring of vapor. It glowed violet when it was stationary but turned to a reddish orange when it moved away with a dancing motion.
67-25 24 Mar 2100 EST	Georgetown Mass. Country Pond	IB Elliptical None	(3) The witnesses described the object as being shaped like a turtle-shell and flashing red and white lights. It hovered over Rock Pond before moving off faster than a jet aircraft.
67-28 11 Apr 1850 EST	Royalston Mass. Country	IIIB Other None	(2) A mass of very bright lights was seen descending and hovering before moving slowly out of sight on an upward course. The lights were brighter than the moon, which was visible during the sighting.
67-29 11 Apr 1845 EST	Orange Mass. Country Pond	IB Elliptical None	(3) A bright glowing object shaped like a squashed egg was seen hovering 100 feet over Tully Pond momentarily before moving off at great speed. A rotating red light was seen on the bottom of the object.
67-30 19 Apr 1930 EST	Tully Mass. Country Near pond	IIIB Elliptical Electrical Television	(4) A cream-colored object about the size of a large car which had a central dome. It flashed bright white lights which were replaced by red lights. It hovered, performed sharp turns and moved off slowly.
67-31 20 Apr 1915 EST	Orange Mass. Country Near pond	IIIB Other None	(4) An object was sighted which carried 8 red blinking lights and two white lights. It hovered and then moved away slowly out of sight.
67-32 20 Apr 2030 EST	Georgetown Mass. Country Pond	IIIB Other None	(6) Two dark objects carried 2 brilliant flashing red lights and 2 dimmer white lights as they patrolled in a sentry pattern over Rock Pond. They stopped and reversed direction several times.
67-33 20 Apr 2140 EST	Bolten Mass. Country	IIIB Oval Sound Humming Vapor	(3) The witnesses sighted a hovering mushroom-shaped object with a frosted white light on top and a red light on the bottom. Turquoise lights were located fore and aft and 8 yellow glowing ports were located around its perimeter.
67-34 21 Apr 1945 EST	Georgetown Mass. Country Road	IIIE Other None	(3) The witnesses sighted 2 groups of 3 red and 1 white lights flashing in sequence. The object carried a large white light which appeared like rectangular windows through binoculars. The object moved into the overcast when several planes converged on the area.
67-42 24 Jun 1000 EDT	Trenton Maine Country Ocean	IB Oval Vapor	(2) Two persons sighted a silver-gray, hat-shaped object hovering about 500 feet from the shoreline. It emitted vapor at its base. The object ascended into a fog bank and descended again at a greater distance before moving away.
67-44A 26 Jul 2315 EDT	Rowley Mass. Residential Power lines	IVA Light Sound Whining	(1 + 4 audible) An orange glowing object was seen moving over a set of power lines.
67-44B 27 Jul 0100 EDT	Newton N.H. Country	IIIE Oval Signals	(3) The witnesses sighed an elongated oval object carrying a steady bright white light fore and aft. It also displayed a central red light and a string of smaller white lights flashing in sequence along its side. It flashed exact responses to sequenced flashlight signals and evaded a jet aircraft.
67-48 8 Sep 2230 EDT	Newton N.H. Country	IIIE Oval Signals?	(4) A circular-shaped object with a central dome and red light circled the area. It slso displayed 3 pinkish lights along its rim and 2 bright white lights on its leading edge. It seemed to respond to flashlight signals after 20-second delays.
67-54 23 Sep 1337 EDT	Amherst Mass. Country	IVA Cylindrical None	(1) A geology professor and NICAP investigator sighted 2 silver cylinders without wings, rudders or stabilizers moving against a bright blue sky. They passed first in front of and then disappeared behind low cumulus clouds.
67-55 2 oct 2030 EDT	Ipswich Mass. Country	IA Oval Animal Dogs barked	(4 + 1 + 1) The witnesses sighted an oval-shaped domed object which glowed yellow around its perimeter. It carried a red, greenish blue and a bright white light. At times it glowed red all over. It hovered, spun and moved up and down.
67-57 3 Oct 2040 EDT	Cambridge Mass. Route 2 Pond	IIIB Oval None	(2) A glowing object shaped like the planet Saturn with a fuzzy amber center. White lights sparkled around its circumference. (It was not a barium cloud experiment, which they had seen earlier at 1918 EDT.)
67-61 26 Oct 2130 EDT	Newton N.H. Country	IIIE Other Sound Humming Animal Dogs barked	(4) An unseen object carrying two horizontal rows of 5-6 red lights and a green and white light. It circled and hovered momentarily and then reversed direction without turning. Dogs barked and whined in the area.
67-66B 28 Nov 1715 EST	Danvers Mass. Residential	IIIB Light None	(2) A yellow glowing ball of light was sighed by a NICAP investigator. It alternately hovered, descended and hovered before moving out of sight.
67-66C 28 Nov 1915 EST	Rockport Mass. Country	IVA Other None	(3) A lighted but unseen object passed over witnesses without a sound. It had one row of 8-10 revolving or blinking white lights and a parallel upper row of yellowish lights. The lights seem to be attached to a curved surface.
68-2 17 Jan 1830 EST	Ipswich Mass. Residential	IA Oval None	(1) The witness sighted an oval or fat cigar-shaped object with a horizontal row of many red and green flashing lights and an upper parallel row of 5 steady white lights. It descended and ascended rapidly.
68-3 17 Jan 2130 EST	Ipswich Mass. Country	ID Oval None	(3) A boomerang or oval-shaped object carrying 5 horizontal white lights approached a car and stopped in midair. It then moved slowly in front of the car before accelerating at great speed over the horizon.
68-8 11 Feb 1900 EST	Johnston R.I. Country Pond	IB Oval None	(1) The witness reported seeing an oval domed object pass over his automobile at the edge of Hawkins Pond. It had pulsating white or pinkish lights around a rim which looked like a flashing theater marquee.
68-10A 10 Mar 2100 EST	Pawtucket R.I. Residential Power station	IIIA Oval None	(1)A dark oval object with a small searchlight in front wobbled and moved with a motion like a "boat riding over the waves." It passed a power substation and followed power lines until it was out of sight.
68-11A Spring 68 1000 EST	Beverly Mass. Residential School	IIIB Oval None	(1 + 10) The witness was playing in the yard of the Centerville School when the sky got dark and a beige-colored oval object with pulsating yellow and green lights descended and hovered several minutes before moving away.
68-15 10 Apr 2100 EST	Ipswich Mass. Country	IIIA Light None	(5 + 2 + 1) The first 2 groups sighted 3 bright white lights in a triangular formation swinging like a pendulum. The lead object suddenly shot away and others changed colors from red to blue to green to white. Nearby, 1 witness reported a glowing ring shining a light on houses.
68-18 12 Apr 2215 EST	Hamilton Mass. Country	VA Other None	(1) A student pilot was on Sagamore Hill (location of 2 radio telescopes) to watch a lunar eclipse. He sighted a cluster of bright lights which blinked from red to orange to bright blue. After hovering, they shot upwards out of sight.
68-21 14 Apr 2100 EST	Beverly Mass. City Power plant	IIIB Other None	(3 + 2) Police investigated 2 phone calls about a string of white lights over the ocean and near the New England Power Plant. They saw these lights pulsating back and forth in sequence and a spotlight shoot down on the water before they streaked away.
68-23 17 Apr 1945 EST	Hamilton Mass. Country Route 1-A	ID Oval None	(1) A dull, silver-gray, domed object hovered just off the road. It carried steady white and red lights. The Air Force Cambridge Laboratory Radio Telescope installation at Sagamore Hill is located nearby.
68-24 17 Apr 2200 EST	Waltham Mass City	IVC Other None	(2) A planetarium lecturer and his wife sighted what appeared to be a jet aircraft follwing a vee formation of 6 faint diffuse whitish lights arranged in 3 pairs. It appeared as if each pair was connected to a reddish tube of light.
68-25 19 Apr 2100 EST	Ipswich Mass. Country	IIIC Elliptical None	(2) A teacher and her young daughter saw an elliptical mass of white light break into 2 white glowing masses, which ejected first one and then another smaler red light, which leveled out and moved away.
68-26 19 Apr 0230 EST	Malden Mass. City	IA Other Sound Pinging	(1) The witness was awakened by a sound like 2 steel knives being struck together. She glanced outside and saw a red glowing object with a point on top flying with a fluttering motion toward and then over a cemetery.
68-27 30 Apr 0150 EDT	Ipswich Mass. Country	IIIA Oval None	(1) A round gayish object reflecting a flashing red light on the underside hovered low over trees. It dropped behind trees and then ascended straight up, hovered, and streaked away at a great speed.
68-32 28 May 2215 EDT	Roxbury Mass. City	IIIE Oval Sound Roaring Physiological Felt	(2) Communities in the area reported buzzing sounds. The witnesses saw 3 objects suddenly descend with an intermittent roar. The closest object was oval with a blue glowing square on its underside. The sound vibrated one witness's eardrums and stomach.
68-34 21 Jun 2100 EDT	Revere Mass. Residential	IA Light Animal Cat ran Dog howled Vapor	(3) An orange ball of fire slowly descended towards a maple tree and hovered. It wobbled and gave off a white trail of vapor before accelerating away and breaking up into many sparklike objects. (This may have been ball lightning.)
68-36 5 Jul 2230 EDT	N. Adams Mass. Country	IVB Light Vapor Reddish	(2) A green light larger than a star was seen moving slowly through the sky. Through binoculars it looked like a green ball with a reddish tail. When an aircraft approached it, the object "blinked out" and then reappeared after the plane went.
68-41 29 Jul 0130 EDT	Barnstable Mass. Country Airport	IA Light Sound Humming	(2) The Witnesses saw a snow-white glowing object seem to land near a deserted grass airport. When they passed the area, a sound like a large swarm of locusts was heard emanating from the field. The airfield had closed at sunset.
68-44 12 Aug 2015 EDT	Gloucester Mass. Residential	IVA Oval None	(1) A whitish gold globe surrounded by a dark ring that looked like the planet Saturn overflew the witness's area.
68-48 16 Aug 2200 EDT	Cambridge Mass. City	IA Light None	(1 + 1) A silent dazzling blood-red globe of light was seen hovering and pulsating at treetop level. It was the apparent size of the full moon.
68-54 23 Sep 0230 EDT	Whitefield Maine Country River	IIIB Oval None	(1) A minister on vacation at a farm in the country awoke to see 2 pencil-shaped rays of light coming through the window. He looked out and saw an orange-red object shaped like "two saucers placed on their concave sections together" hovering in the sky.
68-55 29 Sep 2011 EDT	Needham Mass. Residential	IIIB Other None	(1) An engineer who was familiar with astronomical phenomena and artificial satellites sighted a bright blue light source moving across the sky at 1-degree per second. It was about magnitude 2 brightness and pulsated 2 times per second.
68-57 19 Oct 0130 EDT	W. Quincy Mass. Residential	IIA Cigar None	(1) A glowing white object was seen in the sky, which changed from an oval shape to that of cigar standing on end. At times a smaller blue light appeared under it. It blinked out when approached by a conventional aircraft.
68-62 25 Nov 2230 EST	Dennis Mass. Ocean	IIA Cigar None	(3 + 2 + 2) A yellowish white glowing object looking like a cigar standing on end was seen hovering about one-quarter of a mile off shore and seemingly 200 feet above the water. An investigating policeman confirmed the sighting.
69-4 20 Jan 2030 EST	Weymouth Mass. Country Abandoned ammunition depot	IA Oval None	(2) An object was sighted which looked like a white dish inverted upon a dish with a dark ring around its perimeter. It had a dome on top and 1 red and 2 amber lights on its leading edge. It moved up and down a few times before moving out of sight.
69-6 22 Jan 2150 EST	Lexington Mass. Country Lake	IIIA Oval Sound Whirring	(2) An oval dark object with a central light on top and bottom and 4 white lights around its edge. It moved at times with a side-to-side swaying motion.
69-9 10 Feb 2030 EST	Dartmouth Mass. Country	IA Light Physical Snow	(1) A truck driver left his vehicle to get a closer look at a ball of fire hovering low over snow-covered trees. When he approached within 200 feet of it with a flashlight, it accelerated away at a 45-degree angle, causing snow on the treetops to swirl.
69-17A 27 Apr 1300 EDT	Unknown Conn. Airborne 25,000 feet	IVA Oval None	(1) Airline passenger saw a shiny, disc-shaped object, which was joined by 2 others that slowed to match its speed. They moved along with a rapid, rocking motion before accelerating upwards at an angle with a speed too fast for the eye to follow
69-18A 4 Jul 0700 EDT	Ossipee N.H. Country Pond	IB Oval Sound Humming Physical? Water	(1 + 1 + ?) The prime witness was fishing in a boat and heard a splash behind him. As he swung around to investigate he looked up to see a silver object about 30 feet in diameter about 300 feet above him which rose to about 3000 feet and hovered.
69-27 14 Oct 2040 EDT	Shirley Mass. Country	IVA Other Vapor	(1) The witness sighted a half circle of bright "sparks" which flashed at random on the leading edge of a dark object which passed about 3000 feet directly overhead. An infrequent spark and glowing vapor trail was seen to emanate from the rear of the object.
70-7 21 Jul 0745 EDT	Lynn Mass. City	IIIB Oval None	(1) An object described as appearing like a silver bowl inverted upon another silver bowl was sighted hovering in the sky. It was tipped slightly at an angle.
70-8 26 Jun 0100 EDT	Sharon Mass. Residential	IVA Oval None	(1) The witness sighed an oval object with rotating balls of white light around its perimeter. A bright yellow aura surrounded it. It descended slowly behind trees during a rain storm.
70-10 20 Sep 1830 EDT	Beverly Mass. Country Golf course	IVA Oval None	(4) A bright red-orange ball with the apparent size of the full moon descended slowly behind trees near a golf course. It appered to have spikes or rays sticking out at all angles which also glowed a red-orange color.
70-12 25 Dec 0400 EST	Braintree Mass. City	IVC Oval None	(1) The witness was observing a conjunction of planets when she sighted a vee formation of about 10 silver-gray circular objects. The appeared twice over the area within 5 minutes of each other.
71-1 7 Jan 0710 EST	Dennis Mass. Residential Lake	IB Cylindrical Vapor Flame Physical Ice	(1 + 1 + 2 saw hole) A metallic-appearing cylindrical object was seen descending over a frozen lake. Its leading edge tipped forward and a trail of flame issued from its rear end. Investigating witnesses found elongated hole in ice and steam rising from agitated water.
71-8 27 Mar 2220 EST	Waltham Mass. Industrial Route 2	IIIB Oval None	(1) The witness observed a white glowing object which looked like a jellyfish or a mushroom. It hovered and then dimmed leaving just blinking white lights before it suddenly streaked away and out of sight in seconds.
71-10 29 May 0400 EDT	Oxford Mass. Country Pond	IB Oval None	(4) Some fishermen were approached twice at close range by a dark, domed oval object with a lighted windowlike rectangle. It flipped up on edge to reveal 8 glowing ports around its perimeter. It moved with an up-and-down and pendulum motion.
71-11 31 May 1310 EDT	Newmarket N.H. Country Field Swamp RR tracks	IA Oval None	(2) The witnesses sighted a grayish white upright egg-shaped object with dark ports around its perimeter. It hovered a few feet above the ground in plain view in front of trees before ascending straight up and out of sight.
71-18 17 Nov 1440 EST	Cambridge Mass. City	IIIB Rectangular None	(1) A silvery thin object shaped like a rectangle was seen rotating clockwise as it hovered over city. It ascended and disappeared into cloud cover.
72-2 5 Jan 2345 EST	E. Kingston N.H. Country Swamp RR tracks	IA Oval None	(5) The witnesses came upon the object while snowmobiling through a field which was intersected by RR tracks. It glowed with a yellowish light and hovered about 10 feet above the tracks at a distance of 300 feet. It rose vertically and descended behind trees.
72-4 20 Apr 0245 EST	Scituate Mass. Industrial	IVA Oval Animals Dogs barked	(1) A policeman noticed a light reflection moving along the ground and glanced up to see a perfectly round white-glowing disc move over him and descend into a marshy area behind trees.
72-5 13 May 2150 EDT	Canterbury N.H. Country Power lines	IA Other Sound Buzzing Animal Cat ran	(3 + 2 + 1 + 2 audible) A decahedron or top-shaped object issing a 10-foot colored vertical exhaust and carrying a yellowish and a red-organge light descended with a falling-leaf motion to treetop level and disappeared behind trees in a large swamp.
72-12 31 Aug 1000 EDT	Beverly Mass. Highway Woods	IA Oval Sound Humming	(1 + ?) The witness head a loud humming sound while crossing Route 128 on a bridge. He glanced up and saw an oval object with a central dome move over the highway with an up-and-down motion. Cars slowed and pulled over. It carried a reddish light.
72-16 4 Dec 0015 EST	Waltham Mass. City	IIIA Oval Sound Humming	(2) A pilot and friend saw a starlike object which hovered and made rapid vee-shaped descents and ascents. It approached and passed over witnesses, who described it as pancake-shaped, covered with lights and having a central dome on its topside.

Case Classification System

Mr. Fowler uses the Vallee Classification System, originated by Jacques Vallee, Ph.D., to categorize and determine the details of each case. This system, first published in its original form in Dr. Vallee's book, Challenge To Science: The UFO Enigma, was later modified by Dr. Vallee to align it more closely with the classification system originated earlier by Dr. J. Allen Hynek.
