Update of the Catalogue of UFOs/USOs Reported by Seagoing Services - NavCat 2.0

The US Air Force connection with the issue of UFOs is widely known.  The public is less aware of the US Navy's involvement in the managing and reporting of UFO and USO incidents.

Jan Aldrich has produced a revised Catalogue of UFO/USO cases with over one hundred updated and enhanced cases, along with over one hundred new cases.  Map locations, links to articles and many photographs help to illustrate the scope and nature of these reports.

This remains a work in progress and Jan welcomes any comments or additions.

Read Jan's Introduction to the draft before reading:

First Update of the Catalogue of UFOs/USOs Reported by Seagoing Services

The Lost Files

While numbers of officials, especially in 1947, reported UFO sightings to the press, most did not indicate that they had also reported them to the authorities.  Incidents that indicated some official investigation but which are missing from the official archives are characterized as "Lost Files."

View a preliminary collection of these incidents in this folio of Lost Files.

Keith Basterfield

Keith has produced many valuable catalogues and investigations, the latest being a detailed preliminary compilation of the results of analyses of alleged "fragments" found in association with UAP incidents.

“Preliminary Catalogue Of Analysis of Alleged “fragments” Reportedly Associated With Sightings Of Unidentified Aerial Phenomena”.

A detailed review of official Australian Government files revealing the official interest, handling and history of “Unusual Aerial Sightings” – UFO – reports.

Keith's Catalogue Of Pre-24 June 1947 Australian Unidentified Aerial Phenomena.  Version 7 has been updated and expanded with new cases and additional source notes and commentary:

At about noon on 23 August 1953, Mr T. P. Dury, the Deputy Director of the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) in Papua New Guinea, then an Australian territory, took daylight movie footage of an extraordinary unidentified "missile" over Port Moresby.  The UFO was gone in a few seconds but the story of the official handling of the filmed evidence lives on as an enduring part of the UFO mystery.

Keith Basterfield and Paul Dean undertake a "Cold Case Review" of this incident and subsequent investigations utilizing a detailed chronology of events and expanded collections of detailed public and previously classified reports.

In this two-part collaboration with researcher Paul Dean, Keith examines the circumstances and analysis of the well-known April 2nd, 1966, Balwyn, Victoria, UFO photograph:

Following on from the research undertaken by Keith Basterfield and Paul Dean into the well-known April 2nd, 1966, Balwyn, Victoria, UFO photograph, Canadian researcher, Francois Beaulieu, re-evaluates some previously held theories and offers new insights into authenticating the image.

Keith believes Francois has prepared an extensive and very interesting article which is another example of the continuing investigation into the incident:

A Re-evaluation of the Balwyn UFO Photograph by Francois Beaulieu

Keith also has his own website where you can keep up-to-date with his latest research:

(Keith has decided to integrate future updates for certain categories of events into his catalogue of "The More Interesting Australian UFO Reports."   Some of his older catalogues have been retired to assist in this process.)

Keith has recently updated his popular Catalogue of the More Interesting Australian UAP Reports.  He has included some new cases; checked sources for accuracy, and amended dates, times and other details as necessary.

Jan Aldrich updates some cases in Dominique Weinstein's ACUFOE catalogue with these new additions.

Jan has also compiled a collection of Notes, References and Comments on ACUFOE and Related Matters

Dominique Weinstein's Aircraft/UFO Encounters catalogue remains the best source of UFO sightings by pilots and aircraft crewmembers.  Long-admired and respected by UFO researchers world-wide, an updated version of this catalogue will soon be available to the public.   This online version of Dominique's ACUFOE provides only a small sample of the actual material he has compiled, and the limitations of HTML don't really do justice to the layout and utility of the printed version.

An updated copy of Dominique Weinstein's Aircraft/UFO Encounters Volume 5 1977 - 1998 catalogue is now available.   Widely-admired and respected by UFO researchers world-wide this version contains details of some more recent UFO incidents and provides a downloadable version in .pdf.

Bill Chalker has kindly provided PROJECT 1947 with a recently updated review of Australian Trace Cases, and a selected catalogue of Australian Physical Trace Cases.

This joins Bill's collection of Early Australian Historical Encounters.

More of Bill's excellent research can be found in the PROJECT 1947 Forum pages.

Visit Bill's excellent blog: http://theozfiles.blogspot.com.au/ for the latest news about his research and publications.

British UFO researcher and author Paul Fuller has compiled some interesting ground trace cases from Ted Phillips' Physical Trace Catalogue

The shape and performance characteristics of UFOs are many and varied. In Close Encounters with Unknown Missiles, respected Swedish researchers Clas Svahn and Anders Liljegren of the Archives for UFO research (AFU), document some mysterious and possibly fatal incidents between aircraft and unidentified missile-like objects.
